In Santa Susanna there is a wide, diverse cultural offer to be discovered, where visitors can enjoy activities all year round to complement the leisure activities of the weekly market and the daily craft market. The large part of the events are put on at Can Ratés, a 13th century country house with a garden and watchtower.
Shakespeare Festival
This is the first and only national festival that brings together the dancing, music, theatre and cinema of this famous dramatist. Over ten days William Shakespeare gives life to and impregnates different corners of Santa Susanna with his brilliant works, mainly in Can Ratés country house. The municipality becomes an essential centre for all fans of good theatre thanks to the participation of renowned national and foreign companies.
Magic Fair
The Magic Fair is the great festival of the summer solstice the main figures of which are culture, magic, tradition and natural health. Its family nature has contributed to its consolidation and the loyalisation of an audience more numerous with each edition.
Cultural Spring
From April to June you can enjoy numerous cultural activities in different areas of Santa Susanna, such as plaça Catalunya or the Social Hall, in the centre of the town, Can Ratés country house or the Municipal Sports Pavilion. The programme includes activities ranging from theatre, exhibitions, talks and conferences, to championships or outings; activities conceived for all ages.
Santa Susanna Dance Group
The Dance Group has its roots in the fifties, when a group of youngsters from a small town in Catalonia decided to put on the dances of their land in all festivals in the town and the surrounding area. Today there are two groups: one of veterans and another for children. The purpose of the Group is to perform traditional dances from around Catalonia, from the high mountain areas to dances related to the sea and fishing activity, to the grape picking, or more ceremonious dances, but always remaining faithful to the original dance and costumes. Another of its illustrations was to recover the “Contrapàs de Santa Susanna”, the only dance from the town itself.
