What are the ADF?
The Forest Defence Groups (ADF) are associations formed by forest owners and the town halls in their territorial area, intended to prevent and fight against forest fires through volunteer forces.
Aims and purposes of the ADF
- The collective preparation and execution of programmes of vigilance and prevention of forest fires
- Active collaboration in the organisation, control and performance of certain measures or measures that might be determined by the General Head Office of Natural Heritage and Physical Medium concerning prevention, or with any other body that might have authority and competence in fighting against forest fires
- Performance of divulgation campaigns among the owners of forest lands on actions of prevention and fighting against forest fires so that the sector might be better known
- Sensitisation on the rural and urban population in the territory of the ADF
- Performance of plans of prevention, creation and maintenance of infrastructure road network and water points
- Support for extinguishing forest fires
Area of action of the ADF of Alt Maresme
The area of action of the ADF Alt Maresme is the towns of Calella, Pineda de Mar, Santa Susanna, Malgrat and Palafolls. Five municipal terms where the forest mass is important and the practice of activities in the natural surroundings is habitual.
Today, the ADF Alt Maresme is formed by 30 operative volunteers and a larger number of occasional collaborators. It has five vehicles adapted for preventing and extinguishing forest fires, two with water tanks and three for transport and support, and is integrated in the Federation of ADFs of the Maresme, which co-ordinates the 12 ADFs of the region.
The jobs performed by the volunteers are:
- Forest Vigilance
- Infrastructure maintenance and recovery
- Forest path maintenance and signalling
- Actions in the event of emergency
- Divulgation of information and awareness-raising
- Participation in popular and cultural activities in the area of the ADF
